Cuban Food and Latin Food Restaurants: Las Congas Cafe, Orange Park (Jacksonville), FL

Las Congas Cuban Café is so far north, they’re practically in Georgia. However, the proprietors have proven that you don’t have to be in Miami to get some great Cuban food in Florida. Located in suburban Jacksonville, Los Congas has captured a loyal clientele and why not? With the best churrasco steaks north of Tampa and the palomilla, a thin sliced piece of steak heaven, it’s no wonder they draw a crowd at both lunch and dinner times. Many come here for the pasteles and simple Cuban breakfast of Cuban coffee and buttered Cuban bread.

Crispy masitas de puerco, a tender vaca frita, and chicharrones de pollo, fried chicken pieces served with sweetly caramelized sautéed onions are all stand outs here. Three desserts here are worth blowing the diet on: Pudin de pan, flan, and the Pièce de résistance, the copa Lolita, a rich caramel flan served with vanilla Ice cream drizzled with coconut and caramel. An all-too-convenient drive-up window means that those with a fast food mindset have absolutely no excuse for bringing home another bag of burgers or a bucket from the colonel!

HOURS: Monday through Thursday 6:30 AM to 8:00 PM (except Tuesday when they close at 3:00 PM) | Friday 6:30 AM to 10:00 PM | Saturday 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM | Sunday 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM

PRICES: Reasonable and the daily lunch special can't be beat.
